CAHUITA
Cahuita (ka-WEE-tuh) is a charming and quiet little village located in the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica, 4.5 hours by car from capital San Jose, and 45 minutes from Puerto Limón.
In the last few decades, Cahuita has become a tourism favorite, with its choice of black or white sand beaches, warm waters, lush rain forest, restaurants, hotels, vacation rentals, and a reputation as one of the most easy going, peaceful and serene places in all of Costa Rica.
There are large numbers of very colorful tropical fish, urchins, sea fans, angelfish, blue parrotfish, barracudas, stingrays, and more. You will also find raccoons, crabs (land and water), howler monkeys, kingfishers, night herons, white-nosed coatis, frogs, toads and snakes.
Cahuita is rooted in its history as a fishing village of Jamaican turtle fishermen and banana plantation workers. Most locals speak English with a twist of Patois. Reggae and calypso music complete the Caribbean vibe.
